Music

Can you believe, here we are, already in the month of October. September has always been my favorite month. It has one of my favorite songs -- "Happy Birthday"!!! I'm kidding, of course, because that is not my favorite, and I certainly don't enjoy growing older, but this past month I reached the ripe old age of 76. Just a kid, some say, but I've got a lot of things I want to do before I leave this earth for that "Mansion Over The Hilltop." But I like to claim the whole month of September as "my very own" and celebrate every day. In this area of my blog site we'll be talking about music. I love music -- have always loved music -- but some days I just don't feel like singing or playing the organ anymore. I need music in my life, each and every day, so I hope to recover this joy again soon. (10/4/2007)

  1. Continuing from my original post, I sang baritone/bass in the church choir, and also with the Norse Glee Club; and I often wonder if perhaps I sang a trifle too loud on Sunday morning in the church pew. It doesn't bother me to sing loud. as I figure I can express more enthusiasm and spirit into the song, but I got the idea in my head that people were critical of me, and I have a tough time accepting criticism. I don't think that was the case at all, but I haven't done much singing the last few years.

  2. Again, continuing. I started taking organ lessons when I was nearing 70 years of age. I bought a small Lowrey organ, the Teenie Genie, and jointed in with a group of other students at Schmitt Music in Sioux Falls. I now own the Grand Royale Lowrey organ. It's a beauty, but the only trouble is, I don't do it justice. Most of the time, I do enjoy what I play, even when I make mistakes (which I often do). Play! Play! Play! and I should get better. Music is a great wellness activity, so I better give it more effort once again.
